When robots let us have free time. Problems of the future
The digitisation of work and the use of robots lead to fundamental questions concerning the role of people in these processes. Robots and machines are becoming increasingly independent in actions and decisions, and they enter the space of our lives. Previously found only in factories, which were nearly fully automatised to maximise profits (since human labour is fallible and constantly makes demands), robots are now supposed to do much more. They are expected to learn to act independently outside the industrial world, and they can learn by their own mistakes, which some people are quite incapable of doing. Moral, ethical and cultural values (which many people lack) also play a role here. Theese are reflected in what the robots say, do, and permit.
But what god of programming will shape them and when will this happen
Will humanoids prove to be more human machines Will their moral sense help them better protect our planet and animals Or will they only cause new ethical problems, for example by leading to new dependencies instead of freedom, and forcing people to guard the products of technical systems or powerful monopolies One consequence could be the loss of privacy and self-determination. Some people fear that computers might become too smart and take over our world. The real problem, however, is that they are stupid and have already taken over the world. In the future, we will have to do things which are easy for humans, but not for machines.
Musically, my piece is based on competition between electronics and an instrumental ensemble. Initially the machines discreetly gain more and more dominance. Both worlds are trying to learn from each other since they can bene t from it. Where the acceleration of rhythm is a measure of maximum productivity, the question of perfection is becoming more and more important. Insecurity about the future leads to the disintegration of the human ensemble. Will the robots replace instrumentalists For the time being, the machines are already practising harmony and imitation. Perhaps switching o the machines can save us Both sides practise rebooting, each in its own way.
